Bug Description
I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 and the Gnome brightness applet does not seem to function under the Gutsy Tribe5 LiveCD or after I've installed Gutsy Tribe5. I can use the brightness keys on the Thinkpad to change the actual screen brightness but the applet does not seem to function.
This applet works perfectly with the final version of Feisty. I've been using it for months now and the applet will pop up a little window in the center of the screen when I use the Thinkpad's brightness keys to adjust the brightness. This does not happen in Gutsy.

Same problem here with Sony SZ3XWP, nvidia card, Fn keys work fine to manually dim the monitor but the applet doesn't work, neither does the automatic dimming when I unplugged the laptop. When I do so, I can see the brightness applet appear momentarily ont he screen but the screen isn't dimmed.
