Bug Description

Binary package hint: bcm43xx-fwcutter

Do I have a 64-bit problem?
I am setting up a notebook PC - Compaq presario F572US
My OS is Ubuntu 7.04 64bit
I have installed the fw-cutter package with Synaptics.

The install failed with:
E: bcm43xx-fwcutter: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

I ran /usr/share/bcm43xx-fwcutter/install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh as root but got a 404 error on $DL http://boredklink.googlepages.com/wl_apsta.o.

I STFW and found the file at http://www.vidd.us/downloads/index.php?path=deb/. I commented out the line "$DL http://boredklink.googlepages.com/wl_apsta.o" and reran it.

I can confirm that, it behaves exactly the same on HP Pavilion dv6510 laptop in gutsy beta 64-bit.

It's the same also on 32-bit version of gutsy beta. I've tried firmwares from several different source and it's always exactly the same.

The same Problem for me.

I am using a Acer Extensa 5220 with Broadcom BCM4311 PCI-E Chip.
I have installed Ubuntu Gutsy 32 Bit

iwconfig says it's connected with Link Quality 70/100 but I can't ping the access point.
When staying next to the AP I have got an connection to it and when running Windows Vista I can connect to the AP from everywhere in the house.

I also received a 404 on <http://boredklink.googlepages.com/wl_apsta.o>, but I found a copy at <http://joona.kuori.org/ubuntu-powerbook/wl_apsta.o> and the script ran fine and my wifi worked immediately.

Of course, I can't speak to the quality of that mirror or anything, it would be a good thing to have it hosted somewhere more permanent.
