Bug Description

Hi.
I'm running gutsy5 and things work out pretty smoothly except for one thing. My external monitor isn't properly autodetected. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW.
On the laptop the resolution is fine (Dell Latitude D810) but on the Samsung the screen is slightly bigger than the monitor meaning that I can use the mouse to scroll the screen right/left up/down.

My hardware is this key in the HW-db I think: 1b03026c9bd6e85fe763c8e6db7b1a0b

I'll be happy to give additional information if needed.

This also happens in Kubuntu7.10, except I can no longer scroll the screen, so the bottom 1/3 is hidden from me as is a piece of the right hand screen.
This is from the Live-CD. Can't say what'll happen if I install.

Also, trying to change the resolution doesn't do anything.

Please test against Hardy, which has a quirk added for this particular monitor.

(If it still does not work, perhaps it also requires this quirk from upstream:

+static Bool quirk_detailed_sync_pp(int scrnIndex, xf86MonPtr DDC)
+{
+ /* Bug #12439: Samsung SyncMaster 205BW */
+ if (memcmp (DDC->vendor.name, "SAM", 4) == 0 &&
+ DDC->vendor.prod_id == 541)
+ return TRUE;
+ return FALSE;
+}

)

Hi,
I upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04 a couple of days ago. Worked fine except that the 205BW is not seen as a wide screen anymore.
In 7.10, I was able to check the widescreen option in the "screen and graphic card" tool (realname ?). Now even the gnome-display-properties doesn't recognize it. Looks like it has been forgotten along the way.

My GPU is a Asus EN8800GS (NVIDIA chip).
I had to use an old xorg.conf file to find the proper 1680x1050 resolution again.

Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find out what additional work should be done on this bug.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
