Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Having problems with the Update Manager, spanned from a botched installation of Brother Drivers.

The new package attempted to uninstall the existing drivers, which caused this error. Now Update Manager is inoperative.
When I tried to reinstall the Brother Drivers for this package mfc8420lpr-1.1.2-1.i386.deb, I get the following errors

root@Africa:/home/paul/Desktop/Brother Install# dpkg -i --force-all *.deb

I no longer need the Brother printers, so if the solution involves getting rid of all things Brother, that's okay by me.

Thanks!

Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report and are closing it. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise your question in the support tracker - http://launchpad.net/support .

The brother drivers looks really bad, you could try to run:
$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/mfc8420lpr.postrm
$ sudo apt-get remove mfc8500lpr mfc8420lpr
