Bug Description

Binary package hint: migration-assistant

Hello,

I am using Gutsy Gibbon Tribe 5. The server-installation went fine, all worked. Then I tried the Desktop CD.

my hdd is divided in the following partititons:

/dev/sda1 fat32 old windows -> nothing on it
/dev/sda2 ext3 new /
/dev/sda3 ext3 old and new /home
/dev/sda4 ext extended
/dev/sda5 fat32 personal files
/dev/sda6 ext3 feisty / also uses sda3 as /home and sda7 as swap
/dev/sda7 swap swap

The installation goes fine up to the migration assistant. It then says that it could not unmount /mnt/migrationassistant und that i shall close down all programs using this.
I then go to the console and unmount it manually ( there was the sda1 mounted) and clicked continue. It mounts sda2 and sda3 and exits. Without any message to me.

I also miss the decision in the installation to uncheck the migration assistant, so that it doesn't do anything.

Do you need any other information, and if so, how do i collect them?

I'm sorry, I'm pretty new to alpha testing,

The annoying thing about this is, that the installation somehow crashed my grub bootloader. I don't know why and how, but this is somehow off the topic. So don't mind. I will fix that.

greetings from sunny germany

I can confirm this problem. I've tried various configurations -- I've got 3 hard drives:
drive 0: 2 windows partitions (1 restore, 1 XP Home)
drive 1: partitioned up for 1 Ku- and 1 U-buntu installs, 1 shared /home partition, 1 swap, 2 /boot
drive 2: empty 320 GB (actually it's not empty since it's got a partial install of Ubuntu Gutsy)

I don't need or want the migration assistance. Why is that a mandatory step, anyway. Feels kind of like a microsoft feature... which means it must be a bug, but is there a workaround? My next test will be to disconnect the windows drive, but there should be a software solution.

Aside from this gripe, congratulations on what looks like will be a fantastic release! I can't wait.

THANKS to all
