Bug Description
The problem that i have noticed (which has annoyed me for a few releases) it that my laptop has a native screen resolution 1680x1050 (x1600 ati video card). It refuses to load x on boot and always gives an error.
The only way around this is to use the alternative image installer to install ubuntu, then after it has finished installing to go to a bash terminal and edit the xorf.conf and change the screen res to 1024x768. Then install the ati restricted drivers to get the correct screen res back.
Based on this, i would say that the vesa driver that is being used does not support 1600x1050.
Is it possible to do something to either resolve this or do something clever that makes it possible to use the normal live cd with this screen res as i am sure this will irritate a lot of potential users and make try another distro (or go to windows).
This affects all ubuntu releases that i have tested it on including Gusty Tribe 4. I have not tested the latest release(s) yet.
Is it possible to fix before the full release?
