Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xawtv.

For future reports, as a suggestion only you could try to add the logs as file attachments so would be easier to follow the comment's thread.
Thanks again for taking the time to file this bug.

I can also confirm this bug. I get almost the same exact type of error as above except the memory addresses are different. My tv card comes up as follows when i do lspci:

03:04.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)
03:04.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture (rev 11)

$ xawtv -hwscan
This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/x86_64 (2.6.22-2-amd64)
looking for available devices
port 73-73
    type : Xvideo, image scaler
    name : ATI Radeon Video Overlay

/dev/video0: OK [ -device /dev/video0 ]
    type : v4l2
    name : BT878 video (Prolink Pixelview
    flags: overlay capture tuner

/dev/video1: OK [ -device /dev/video1 ]
    type : v4l
    name : OV519 USB Camera
    flags: capture

And nothing else happened.

$ dpkg -l xawtv
[..]
ii xawtv 3.95.dfsg.1-6 X11 TV application

Are you using <= "-5"? There was a patch for free()ing invalid pointer in "-6".
Could you try latest Debian version (i.e. get sources and build them).
It should help.

i have -5.

I am running feisty and when I download the source and try to compile
it some of the stuff fails to use the quicktime headers.

It looks for /usr/include/quicktime/ but according to the
quicktime-dev package there located in something like /usr/include/qtm
or something like that. After I fixed that, some of the data
structures in the quicktime were off.

I dont have time right now to play with it, but if you suspect that
that is the cause of the crash, then I will wait for the feisty
repository to incorporate this fix.

Thanks
