Bug Description

Binary package hint: gparted

I plugged a brand new IDE drive into a PC running Gutsy Tribe 5 with all current updates using a IDE to USB caddy (cheap safecom thing though) and tried to create an msdos disk label on the drive. Part way through the process GParted crashed and the program closed. When I re-opened GParted the label it had created seemed to be fine as I could add partitions without problems.

I will also report this upstream.

I was running GParted version 0.3.3-2ubuntu3 with libparted version 1.7.1-5.1ubuntu5

Also seen on VMWare Workstation 6 running Gutsy release version. Added msdos label to new disk and gparted crashed with a segfault but the label was applied.

(gparted 0.3.3 with libparted 1.7.1)

I bought a brand new USB2 external disk and tried to use gparted to create a disk label - I got this same behavior.

Thanks for this bug report.

Can you install the latest Gparted version 0.3.3-2ubuntu6.1 in Linux Ubuntu Gutsy and confirm if you can still reproduce that bug?

I have a crash similar to this one. GNU Parted is an old version (like 1 1/2 years old) and I hope they update it for this new release. Also GParted is outdated too. I have not tried to compile the newer versions myself to see if this fixed it.

phinn : Thanks for your comment. Did you reproduce the bug on version 0.3.3-2ubuntu6.1 or higher? Or it was really a older version? Actual Gutsy Gparted release is 0.3.3-2ubuntu6.1. There's already a wishlist bug for the new gparted version : bug 190552

Hardy has 0.3.5, I'm going to assume this bug is fixed by now. If not please reopen.
