User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored....

Bug Description

Running Gutsy.

I get the following error after entering username at login:

"User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored. This prevents the default session and language from being saved. File should be owned by user and have 644 permissions. Users $HoME/.drmc file must be owned by user and not writable to others"

What permssions does the file have?

$ ls -al ~/.dmrc

On mine I see:

-rw------- 1 tj tj 27 2007-08-26 20:17 /home/tj/.dmrc

I found the problem and fixed it.

Somehow my home dir had 777 permissions.
I changed to 700 and all is fine now.

If you share your HOME folder, the permissions are changed. I had my home shared and tried setting permissions and ownership with no resolve. I unshared the folder and the problem went away.

When sharing, permissions are set on your folders....

Possible resolution: Don't allow sharing of $HOME folder. Share deeper folders only.
