Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

Using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.6 (Ubuntu-feisty) I am unable to view Indic scripts correctly.

The test page is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Enabling_complex_text_support_for_Indic_scripts

When viewed with Konqueror, the scripts are rendered correctly, but not so with Firefox.

FYI, I have installed ttf-indic-fonts.

I will attach the Firefox and Konqueror outputs as images after filing this report.

from what i see they are badly rendered in both firefox/konqueror, and yes, it looks like a font problem.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta or later?

I am now using:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092510
Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.3

The page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Multilingual_support_(Indic)

is now rendered correctly. The difficulty is that like a person who
wakes up and falls asleep and wakes up and falls asleep again, the Indic
font rendering works and then stops working and then works again. I
suspect that sometimes the Debian/Ubuntu package does not have the
correct options compiled in and at other times it does. A little better
QA during compilation might fix this problem once and for all.

I do not run 8.10 beta and cannot comment on performance using it.

I think you can close this bug for 8.04 because it does not exist at
present.

Thanks.

This should have been fixed in 3.0. I am unable to reproduce this bug. Can you please try running firefox in safe-mode and try a new profile to see if it helps if you are able to reproduce it again

I can confirm that this has indeed been fixed in FF 3.0.7 in Intrepid.

Thanks.
