Bug Description

Binary package hint: amsn

This is using latest amsn 0.97RC1+dfsg-0ubuntu1, gutsy, x86_64.

amsn starts, but when selecting "Log In" absolute nothing happens, no login window, no console output, no nothing. The rest of amsn GUI is still working, I can enter the preferences and so on. I didn't find any verbosity options, and don't know anything about debugging a tcl/tk application so I am afraid I can't write a more detailed bug report than this.

I have reinstalled 0.96+dfsg1-2build1 which is working fine.

I haven't got this problem with amsn 0.97RC1+dfsg-0ubuntu1.

Maybe you can try to obtain a backtrace.

Do you also use amd64?

I suspect that an ordinary backtrace would be useless, as aMSN is written in TCL, an interpreted language, so the backtrace would only be of the interpreter. Also I would have to figure out where to put a breakpoint, as aMSN as I said doesn't crash, but continue working.

I am sure that there are other, recommended ways of debugging TCL, I don't know them and unfortunately don't have the time to research that right now.

Yes, I use amd64. I've just install amsn on a fresh gutsy install.

I did some more testing.

It seems that if I disable "auto-connect on startup" then I get a proper login after a restart. If I then re-enable auto-connect and restarts amsn again the problem returns.

I confirm the bug.

It appears only when you enable auto-connect on startup.

Yes, it has

At least I have installed it

8.5.0.a5-3v1ubuntu0

is the installed version

It is installed by some dependency I am not aware of

I have also installed another package tcl8.4

version
8.4.16-4ubuntu1

I did not installed directly these packages but they came by dependence.

Please see this:

Also 8.5.0.a5-3v1ubuntu0 is not an official package of Ubuntu repositories. You are using unofficial repositories.

Well,

I uninstalled tcl8.5 and amsn was uninstalled ...

whem I try to install amsn it requires tcl8.5 and tk8.5 again

My amsn is

0.97+final-0ubuntu5

and synaptic asks for tcl8.5 and tk8.5

I will try to install the version

amsn (0.97RC1+dfsg-0ubuntu1)

by hand

Daniel

I did it by hand and it worked ...

It is strange... I am using multiverce and universe repositories. Maybe this
is the reason of my problem
