xdvi alternative is broken in gutsy

is there an xdvi package ???

That is all messed up. No idea how it happened. In Debian we have
 /usr/bin/xdvi-xaw.bin
and the postinst script tries to fix any old remains.

Esp. the fact that your xdvi-xaw.bin sounds strange ... no idea about
the changes Ubuntu made.

I'm unable to reproduce this. The symbolic link and alternative works ok, if a little ugly. I doubt this is Ubuntu-specific if it really is a bug. The only Ubuntu changes in texlive-bin 2007 are libpoppler and kpathsea changes.

Can anybody else reproduce this?

in my opinion this is just really a big in the install script.
/usr/sbin/xdvi-xaw.bin is here and working (it is what was invoked by the
"xdvi" command before this upgrade). The only problem is the symlink in the
alternative....

I just wanted to say that I'm seeing the exact same behaviour under Gutsy (dist-upgraded from Feisty). On my Debian Testing PC, however, /etc/alternatives/xdvi.bin is correctly pointing to /usr/bin/xdvi-xaw.bin

I'm changing the status to "Fix released", since xdvi is working fine again for me in texlive-base-bin 2007-12ubuntu3. Please feel free to change the status if it isn't working for you, though.

Had the same problem. Fixed it myself with

$ sudo update-alternatives --set xdvi.bin /usr/bin/xdvi-xaw.bin
