Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

In Ubuntu Gutsy, even with all desktop effects enabled in the "Appearance" prefernce panel the cube effect is disabled by default. To enable it, one must use gconf or something like CompizConfig Settings Manager. It seems like this effect should be enabled by default - it is likely the most well known of the Compiz/Beryl desktop effects, and nearly every other distribution enables it when Compiz is enabled. Could this be considered for Gutsy?

Why is this? The cube is *the effect* people think of when they think of
Compiz/Beryl, and it seems silly to turn it off by default. Couldn't the
cube used alongside the wall (i.e. using the wall, but making the cube
appear with Ctrl+Alt+mouse movement)?
