Low sound output and poor quality

Bug Description

AC'97 intel8x0

Very low sound output, barely audible from laptop speakers. In addition the sound quality is very poor, chipping all the time.

Will post the commands mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/80907
in separate text files.

cat /etc/asound.conf ~/.asoundrc*

Problem solved. Low sound caused by a loose contact (hw). As with the chipping I don't know how I fixed that, but it's not a problem anymore.
