Bug Description

I installed systemd-sysv and rebooted the system, afterwards sddm did not start by itself anymore. Trying to start it via

:~$ sudo systemctl start sddm
Job for sddm.service failed. See 'systemctl status sddm.service' and 'journalctl -xn for details.

:~$ sudo journalctl -xn

Starting directly sddm with sudo works.

Please report upstream to SDDM since the systemd unit comes directly from them.

Please reopen. The discussion in the upstream bugtracker [1] shows that it is likely to be a packaging bug (packages compiled with -DNO_SYSTEMD).

it'll get fixed when ubuntu switches to systemd properly in the next month or two

Right, so sddm/systemd will only properly work in Vivid and not Utopic then.

As of now sudo systemctl start sddm seems to work, but sddm still not starts by itself.

'systemctl enable sddm' to start it automatically seems to work in vivid now.

FYI: I ran into a similar problem, but none of the hints mentioned before helped me. However, I have found bug #1447144, which fixed my issue by removing /etc/sddm.conf.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Kubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Kubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Kubuntu version. If you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
