Ah, it looks like a dist-upgrade from Precise to Trusty would not upgrade gnuplot-nox and gnuplot-x11.

I think that’s it. I don’t remember getting them anywhere special but after a while they were being kept back routinely when upgrading other packages.

Anyhow, I do not use Gnuplot often; removing it allowed me to dist-upgrade.

Dear Brian,

I do not remember that I installed gnuplot-nox and gnuplot-x11 from
somewhere special. I need gnuplot from time to time, but I do not think
that I added a ppa for it or installed respective packets by hand.

Meanwhile I resolved my problems by re-installing Ubuntu over my
existing installation.

Regards
Mathias

Hi,

I had the same problem. After reading this thread, I've just uninstalled gnuplot and related packages and I'm trying to upgrade right now. It looks like it's working (at least, it's been able to compute the needed changes).

Cheers,

Nacho

Many thanks Irene.

I removed quite a few packages in one desperate attempt to upgrade.
This worked , but of course I was not sure which one caused the problem.

Kind regards

Roger
