Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

From today on I can't login to my laptop at least sort of:
When I start my laptop I get a window where I need to choose a host to connect to (including my host/ip) but it does not start it whatever option I try. It can scans the network alright as it detects the 'other' linux machine on the netword with xdmcp enabled but this machine is not yet restarted with the latest update/upgrade (and I will not restart it yet as I am afraid I will end up in the same situation as my laptop)

I also can start x applications from the laptop via ssh -x login.

(I saw there is a new linux kernel in use Linux 2.6.22-11-generic but starting up with even x.x.x-10-x does not solve my problem -even in recovery mode- either ... )

Is this a xdmcp problem? in my gdm.conf it is disabled. Or something else...?

My situation [gutsy / Linux 2.6.22-11-generic / dell latitude d620 gnome: using at for normal office work as webmaster]
