Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On PPC (Powerbook G4), g-p-m suffers from a number of defects:

* Conflicts with pbbuttonsd, causing multiple suspend [if the machine resumes at all].

* Corrupt screen and locked machine on resume (most of the time)

* Breaks screen brightness buttons (screen can be dimmed but not fully brightened)

* Not easily removed (offers to take out gnome-session, which looks suboptimal)

For PPC-G4 users, the best way to handle power is to rename gnome-power-manger to something like gnome-power-manger.b0rken and use pbbuttonsd / gtk-pbbuttons, which work, are stable and do not lock up the machine.

Hi there
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you?, Can you please try with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron?

Thanks in advance.

I'm running Hardy. G-P-M on PPC remains as broken as ever. Pressing the power button logs me out. This sucks.

The solution remains just to delete gnome-power-manger if you want your PPC box to work.

#144305 is effectively a duplicate of this and is getting attention. This can go away.
