Bug Description
Binary package hint: mplayer
Whenever playing a video with AC-3 surround sound on MPlayer, I only get the left and right channels. This happens solely with AC-3 audio while other codecs that support 5.1 encoding are completely unaffected (the famous 6_channel_id.wav targets all my speakers, but switches the RearLeftRight/
Forced audio codec: mad
Opening audio decoder: [liba52] AC3 decoding with liba52
Using SSE optimized IMDCT transform
Using MMX optimized resampler
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 256.0 kbit/16.67% (ratio: 32000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [a52] afm: liba52 (AC3-liba52)
Note the "AUDIO..." line. When playing other 5.1 encoded media it says:
Forced audio codec: mad
Opening audio decoder: [pcm] Uncompressed PCM audio decoder
AUDIO: 44100 Hz, 6 ch, s16le, 4233.6 kbit/100.00% (ratio: 529200->529200)
Selected audio codec: [pcm] afm: pcm (Uncompressed PCM)
I know for sure that MPlayer played AC-3 streams correctly in Feisty.
I use an Intel 82801DB(ICH4) on-board AC'97 chip.
Were you attempting to use pass thru audio to a receiver? If so, you will be needing additional switches to handle this.
