Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

xnest does not seem to be a dependency, and running gdmflexiserver --xnest just fails as a result. This command is from the desktop entry for "New Login in a Window".

Thank you for your bug. That's because gdm can be used without it, there is a Recommends on "xserver-xephyr | xnest" which should be enough

Changed in gdm:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Invalid

Note that Recommends will probably be installed by default next cycle

OK, it just seems weird to have a Desktop Entry for something which doesn't work unless another package is installed.

Perhaps we need a gdm-in-window package that provides this Desktop Entry along with a dependency on xserver-xephyr | xnest and gdm.

The entry has a NoDisplay=true and should not be listed if you don't change it with a menu editor

The problem is that when you do show it, it takes about 10 seconds then throws a generic error message about not being able to start an X server.
