Bug Description

Launching Googleearth under Compiz crashes X server.
Could be related to 130325, 135142, and 15242
I just upgraded to Gutsy from Feisty. Using Nvidia with Compiz Fusion nothing related to Compiz Fusion worked. No cube, etc. I launched Googleearth and it crashed X. I kept trying, but every time I launch Googleearth with Desktop Effects active, X crashes. I don't know enough to begin debugging, but I will try to provide info if you show me how.

If you want to confirm that your problem is Bug #130325 , test whether 3D apps like Google Earth work with desktop effects turned off and report back your results.

I will confirm that 3D apps (GoogleEarth, SDL based games, everything, works with Desktop Effects turned off. Does that make this a duplicate of #130325 ?

Your guess is almost certainly right. You are using an NVIDIA card (the only question could be whether it's a card newer than a GeForce 2 but I think it's safe to assume that your card is a GeForce 2MX or newer if you can use compiz-fusion and you are seeing this problem), you only get the crashes when desktop effects are on, you are using Gutsy and the crashes restart X. Given all of information I will mark this bug a duplicate.
