Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

If you have /boot on separate partition and you dont want to format/erase it (beacouse you have another linux or ubuntu install on same disk) then installation process will not install grub and will fail.

Installer can install /boot on separate partition only if it format it, with destroying all its content needed
to boot another ubuntu/linux/other os.

Installer should be able to put its kernel and boot information on partition for /boot without
formatting and destroying its content in the process.

I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.  Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I will need to come back at this matter.
This bug reported long time ago I think I was using like 7.10 in that time, don`t remember (That is why bug reports will be more documented, anyway). So I will install Jaunty and see if it is hap[pening. If not, we will close this then.

This bug seems to be there in Ubuntu 10.04 as well. I tried both the live CD and alternate CD installs; neither of them work if you do not format an existing /boot partition.
