Bug Description

I've created a drawer with some application launcher icons inside it. After logging into gnome, drawer opens fine at the first time after the icon of the drawer. However clicking later again to open it always open at the left top corner of the screen behin in front of the panel. It's not fatal, however an embarrassing bug. It's gutsy on i386 but an x86_64 machine which I have access to has this problem as well. Version of package gnome-panel is 1:2.20.0.1-0ubuntu1

Thanks for your report. Are you using Desktop Effects? Which video card do you have? I'm trying to reproduce this behavior but i can't.

I don't use desktop effects, it is an ATI stuff (using fglrx binary blob driver):

Not reproducible for me, to be confirmed by someone with the same video card. thanks.

Just created another drawer, and I can't reproduce the bug either. interesting, since (as screenshots show) that was the case at the fist time ... I've created another drawer, moved items from the old (and buggy) one, then deleted the the old one. The "new" one works without problem.

Do you still have a buggy configuration somewhere on a way to trigger one?

Happening in hardy's gnome-panel 1:2.21.91-0ubuntu1, but only on drawers where the enable_animations gconf setting is disabled.

don't reopen closed bugs, if you have a similar issue open a new bug so the submitter doesn't receive new comments he didn't ask to receive

I expect it's not a similar issue, it's the same issue. My hope was that the original submitter would try my configuration (disabling animations on drawers) to confirm if his problem really went away or not, or if a configuration change caused it to be hidden.

I was able to reproduce the bug under the following precondition:

The enable_animations-property for the panel contained by the drawer has to be set to False.
(If set to True, the panel appears at the correct position)

Using desktop effects or not (and metacity instead) makes no difference.

Version is Gutsy-Updates (Panel version: 1:2.20.1-0ubuntu1).

Confirmed for hardy heron beta. In addition, for me if drawer is closed upon rechecking enable_animations panel just plain refuses to pop up. If drawer is open when enable_animations is rechecked it works fine however (aside from the delay bug linked below)
(I hope cross-posting is acceptable... original post under https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/108951 )
