Bug Description

Version: libpoppler2 0.6.0-0ubuntu1 in Gutsy.

Poppler tries access to POPPLER_DATADIR("/usr/share/poppler"),
when PDF files required CMap files.
But current poppler package does not create its dirs.

For example, when evince open a Japanese PDF file.
Poppler tries access to
 /usr/share/poppler/nameToUnicode/
 /usr/share/poppler/cidToUnicode/
 /usr/share/poppler/unicodeMap/
 /usr/share/poppler/cMap/
in function GlobalParams::scanEncodingDirs() in GlobalParams.cc.

Because Japanese CMap files are non-free(its in xpdf-japanese package),
it is not bug that there are not these subdirectories.
But "/usr/share/poppler" directory should be offered by poppler package.

Older packages(<=0.5.4) did not require this directory.
because poppler could read "/etc/xpdf/xpdfrc" to search CMap files,
and "/etc/xpdf/xpdfc" is provided by xpdf-common package.

Thank you for your bug report? Could you describe what issue you have because of that and what the empty directory change?

Sorry, this bug report is wrong.

It is problem that evince can not display Japanese (and probably Chinese, Korean) PDF file without embedded fonts. When reads CJK PDF file, poppler expects that there are CMap files for CJK in above directories. But there are not its files and directories in current version.

I have thought that it is poppler bug. However, I noticed that absence of poppler-data package causes this problem. I am creating poppler-data package, and closes this bug in changelog.

In Debian, there is same and more accurate bug report.
