Binary package hint: update-manager
starting 3 kernal updates ago when the new kernal is added to /boot/grub/menu.lst all other distros are removed . prior ubuntu kernals are kept .
steps to reproduce .
1. have another linux distro on the same box and use ubuntu's grub.
2. allow a kernal update to be installed.

oops my bad . close this one. I have been shown the error of my ways . the only question I have is why not on prior kernal updates ?
