Bug Description

Binary package hint: aptitude

LENGTHY SUMMARY:

I upgraded to Gutsy last night, and one of the first changes I noticed was that my usual habit of typing "apti" and then TAB-completing to aptitude - and then being able to type update or upgrade or install or whatever - has been disrupted. There are now two new binaries that begin with the word "aptitude-" (aptitude-create-state-bundle and aptitude-run-state-bundle), so now I need to add an additional space-bar-keystroke to get on with the show. I don't consider myself to be that much of a poweruser, I think there are many like me out there who use aptitude in much the same way, and who will now be mildly annoyed by this extra keystroke. If these two binaries can be renamed to something else without braking the internals of aptitude or its siblings, then that would be great. The two binaries are apparantly used for bug-reporting.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

(Trying to install package foo)
Open a terminal, type "apti", then hit TAB, and then type "in", then hit TAB again, then package name (foo). You end up with "aptitudeinfoo".

VERSIONS AFFECTED:

Gutsy Gibbon, Ubuntu 7.10 installed on September 22nd 2007:

Compiler: g++ 4.1.3 20070831 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.1.2-16ubuntu1)

NCurses version: 5.6
libsigc++ version: 2.0.17

Thanks for taking the time to report this issue. Though this might be hard to work with this is not a bug in aptitude. Tab-completion is a method of showing possible targets. So if there are programs with names like this they need to be showed. If this is really too hard for you, you could create an alias for aptitude in your shell configuration.
