Bug Description

I have a ThinkPad T61 running Gutsy.

Since upgrading to the 2.6.22-12 kernel in yesterday's batch of updates, I have been unable to use either the nVidia drivers or the iwlwifi drivers. The nVidia drivers appear to have a kernel mismatch, while the iwlwifi drivers for the 3945 do not appear to be included at all (only the 4965 drivers appear to be present in the latest releases). Is this an oversight, or is this set of updates simply not yet available?

Reverting to 2.6.22-11, everything works as-expected again.

New Information:
The release of the restricted-modules update for 2.6.22-12 fixed the nVidia issue for me. However, I still do not have use of my wireless card.

I have the same problem with NVidia, and also me switching back to 2.6.22.11 works fine, which I will do now, since this isn't working.

It looks like the update to the nVidia drivers was just released, so that's now working on 2.6.22-12.

However, the iwlwifi/3945 issue is still present. I'm not even sure where to begin looking to address this.

Good for you, bad for me. It still is not working. Everytime I try using the nvidia driver a failsafe configurator comes up saying it couldn't load. It was working fine in 2.6.22.11, but now it does not. Actually it took awhile to get it working in that version also, but eventually got it to work. Tried the same steps here, but still not working.

This sounds like a different problem. My problem with the nVidia drivers was just a kernel version mismatch; I could see as much in the system logs. Probably worth opening a new bug for your specific issue.

I'm a total newb to Ubuntu and linux in general (but enough of a computer nerd to want to use the latest-and-greatest version rather than the stable one), but I'd be glad to try and help with that if I can!

On topic:
As of today, still no joy with the wireless. If I opt to activate the ipw3945 restricted driver, that allows me to use wifi, however its reliability is suspect (tends to disconnect arbitrarily after a few hours), and lspci shows the device itself. I had much greater success with the iwl3945 driver, and would much, much, much prefer to use that one. However, the iwl3945 module simply refuses to load, because it doesn't appear to exist in the 2.6.22-12 modules package. More and more this is seeming like an omission/oversight rather than an actual software problem.

I will try to see if I can compile a current version of the iwl3945 driver myself later tonight if no one has posted any other solutions by the time I get home (8 hours or so from this posting).

Can you please test again? Today's update of linux-ubuntu-modules has got the iwl3945 driver again.

Yep, it's working now. I did a search for the file after updating and was very excited to find it. Rebooting activated it and everything is once again functioning as expected.

Thanks!

I just (20 mins ago) did a dist-upgrade which included 2.6.22-12. There appears to be no iwl4965 module in this package so I have no wireless at this kernel version.
