Bug Description

2.12.0-1ubuntu1

some filechooser windows miss the network entries. But not all!

this is the list of default apps that have the network entry:
- gedit, totem, file-roller, eog, rhythmbox, openoffice

this is the list of default apps that does not have the network entry:
- firefox, tomboy, gimp, pidgin

what's wrong?

Thank you for your bug. That's not likely a GTK issue, those applications probably don't use the vfs backend

Changed in gtk+2.0:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Invalid

why is it assigned and invalid?

We assign desktop bugs to the team because it makes easier to be sure the list get comments, etc. It closed as invalid because that's not a GTK bug if the hackers working on those software have decided to not use the vfs option

ok, in your opinion should I open bugs to all those applications?

yes, though in some case it might be a package missing on your configuration, do you have gimp-gnomevfs for example? The firefox issue is likely known. Pidgin is not a GNOME application and that's likely they don't want to depends on libgnomeui and gnome-vfs

I've completely understood the problem now! thanks.
Don't you think that the applications shipped with ubuntu should have
the gnome-vfs plugins installed by default (of course if available?)
maybe the program that really needs it is openoffice, though it would
be great if every app had the same aspect and filesystem functionality

Sorry, openoffice has network support!

They usually are, we should maybe add gimp-gnomevfs which is a new package there
