Bug Description

There are several errors and grave annoyances when extending the display over more than one screen in "vivid" (fully updated)

1) Settings are not reliably stored. When i reconnect a second monitor to my laptop, the settings from last time should be used. Better of course would be to remember the settings individually for different displays , but ok, that'd be a new feature.

2) The name of my second screen is displayed as two unrecogniseable characters.

3) There is a switch for selection of the primary screen, which i expect should select the one on which the menu panel is displayed. It doesn't.

4) The selection window that appears when connecting a second display says "extend to the right" (in German). At least i think it does, the text is too long. Also: What about people who have their second display on the left?

5) The checkbox for "mirror screens" is buggy. When switching a previously unused display on ("use this display"), the setting goes to "mirror", but the checkbox doesn't. You have to click it twice before it works correctly.

6) The "mirror screens" checkbox should never appear on the primary display. That's totally brainless. Also it should say "mirror primary display". Two mirrors are a feedback loop!

First of all, it would be more useful if these 6 issues were submitted individually. However, let me quickly reply:

1) This is not really an intended feature for now. It only remembers the last config you had. So this is a feature request: a reliable system that saves and restores configurations e.g. based on a display's EDID.

2) That is the fault of either your hardware manufacturer or the graphic card driver. However, we can't do anything but display the info we get from there.

3) It does. However, some Xfce components don't support this yet. When using software that does (e.g. Plank, the dock), it produces the expected results.

4) Those can open the advanced dialog and pull the display to the left. This popup-dialog is supposed to be minimal, for more options, use the advanced dialog. (And yeah, you can argue that left is better than right, it's subjective.)

5) True, that is a known issue and we're working on it.

6) Not sure the "Mirror" option shouldn't appear there. If you have two displays and you click "Mirror" on one, then that naturally affects the other display too. So of course you want to be able to mirror your primary display.

Having replied to all of your points now, I'll close this report as Invalid. As I said, it's not helpful to have more than one issue per bugreport, because then you can't really track the progress. Please submit individual bugreports. Thanks!
