Bug Description

Package: mingetty
Version: 1.08-2
Severity: normal

The program works fine if it is invoked by init the default way. But it exits with error when it is invoked by user's command line.
I digged a little and found out it is the call to ioctl(fd,TIOCSCTTY,1) in open_tty().
This bug was confirmed as #51756 and fixed in debian bug track system. However, the added 'setsid()' no longer exsists in 1.08-2 version.

Thanks for your work, the patch seems reversed though? The package is also in sync with Debian, could you send your changes to their bug tracker as well?

I confirm your analysis of this bug. I also concur with Seb's recommendation that you forward this bug upstream to the Debian maintainer. The mingetty package is a seldom-used package in Ubuntu universe which is currently in sync with Debian, it doesn't seem to make sense to carry a delta in Ubuntu for this issue.

Please use 'reportbug -B debian mingetty' to forward this bug report to the maintainer.
