Bug Description

I have an NVidia Geforce 6600 GT and a LCD 1280x1024 monitor. After the upgrade, it starts up in a Vesa graphical configurator screen. I try to select Geforce 6 series, but it stays at Geforce 6800. I cannot select my NVidia proprietary driver. If I change my xorg.conf file back to what it was before the update, the configurator just changes it back to failsafe devices.

Are you getting any debug info from the various system logs?

I don't know what to check. If after I bring it up, the failsafe drivers is all I see,

Ok, here is the Xorg.0.log (I don't know why previously one was saved as an executable).

Well tried to stay at 2.6.22.11 until this was fixed. Now it seems that this cannot be done. It is now upgraded to 2.6.22.13, and still having problems configuring driver. Right now its using the nv driver, which does not work fully with my 6600 GT with 128 megs memory. The failsafe drivers were still being used unless I chose to run the driver in 'low graphics mode'. Which I di but most of my graphics apps do not work in the mode, so I chose the nv driver because at least a few work with the nv driver.

The main program I use is Age of Empires 3 thru Wine. This does not work with the nv driver. Is there some way to make ubuntu work with the nvidia drivers off the web, I tried but ubuntu came up again in failsafe.

How can this step be skipped???

I have found a workaround, and that is to use envy. I tried everything else that is ubuntu, but nothing else worked.

Having the same kind of problems with NVIDIA GPU GeForce Go 6400 at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0).

The greatest thing about bulletproof X is, that when you want to check the logs for what caused the problem all you find are the failsafeX logs!
