compiz leaves shadow outlines behind menu / tooltip objects

Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Ubuntu 7.10 (PPC)

Compiz sometimes leaves behind the window shadowing for menu and tooltip objects after they have disappeared. This is very annoying as there is no way to get rid of them other than recreating the window in exactly the same place, same size to refresh the screen area, but this is tricky - usually have to restart compiz.

It would be better to switch off menu and tooltip shadowing by default anyway.

I can confirm this problem. Observation showed me that it only happens with GIMP. Haven't seen another application behaving like this. Only tooltips and window borders like to crash and leave their shadow behind. When i restart the compiz window decoration plugin, the screen gets "clean" again. So it has only to do with this plugin.

My specs are ATI Radeon X1600, fglrx and Gnome with Xgl.

I have the same problem but it is not caused by gimp in my case, and in fact it isn't EVERY menu either I can't seem to narrow it down. I am running ubuntu gutsy 7.10 i386 with an ATI Radeon 9950

Same problem for tooltips and popup windows like the one of the Update-manager.

My graphic card is an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

This does not happen with every theme. If i use default theme, I don't get this bug.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I know that happened to me on Ubuntu 7.10. I don't use desktop effects
because I ran into too much problems so it's difficult to me to say if the
bug is there. I have switched the "Desktop effects" on. I will tell you if
the problem happens again.

Wait and see
