Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-alsamixer

I have installed Gusty on a Dell 630. The sound has never worked on it.

if i click the speaker icon in the top panel i get:
No Volumn control GStreamer plugins or devices found.

If i click on the "alsamixer gui, in Aplications -> sound and Video I get:
alsamixer: function snd_ctrl_open failed for defaults: No such device.

I have tried google for a coulpe of weeks now, but to no avail.

I am farily new to Linux so not sure what other info you need. I installed the 7.10 because 7.04 wouldnt boot on this machine.

I just installed gnome-alsamixer on a fairly stable gutsy system with functioning sound.
When I started gnome-alsamixer the first time, it was apparently scanning for hardware
and crashed per bug report. AMD2000+, 512M memory, Via onboard sound disabled,
Creative labs SB live pci emu10k1 driver enabled, audio was working before gnome-alsamixer
installed.
