Bug Description

I tried to update to gutsy versions of emacs and emacs-snapshot. Now none of the addons packages like muse, bbdb or remember will install. The strange thing is that the messages say emacs-gtk has not been installed but I can run emacs using the gtk toolkit fine. I can't install other packages manually ie in my own site-lisp as they don't compile because there is not emacs on the system. I can compile single elisp files from the running instance of emacs, but can't use configure scripts or make.

Actually this last set of messages is the most informative yet. I have over the past few days purged all forms of emacs and tried to reinstall. I can use what does install but I like auctex muse and friends. I can't even install them manually.

I hope I've given enough info.

In the absence of any other complaint like mine I would put this bug to rest. My harddrive was dying. Some sort of quick growing cancer. I put her to rest last night. A new install on fresh harddrives show no problems. So I think this was due to bad sectors not software bugs.
