Bug Description

In Gutsy, I can't get my wired connection to work, in the default mode, dhcp, the connection isn't detected.
I have tried this in two different computers, and I had the same result, ah, and this happened in the live of Xubuntu, in the beta version.
In Xubuntu 7.04 using live and the installed version, this computers work perfectly with this connection.

Thanks in advice

Thank you for testing Xubuntu Gutsy!

What does the command ifconfig and dmesg say? I know it is a live cd and therefore it may be very difficult for you to put this information here. I just want to know if ifconfig shows at least a device called "eth0". Look if it is there. If it is not, then look what the command dmesg says in a terminal. Look for messages like this:
[ 39.057016] eth0: RealTek RTL8139 at 0xd4858000, 00:50:ba:b4:81:68, IRQ 10
[ 39.057023] eth0: Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139C'

This means my network adaptor is found.

Do you maybe use a DSL-connection? then you may want to configure your connection with the command "pppoeconf"

To open a terminal press on the middle button of your mouse and select terminal.

I have tried with the same computer, in a network without dhcp, with Ubuntu, and it has worked. This weekend I'm going to try again with Xubuntu (I don't have it right now where I am) and with a dhcp connection. Sorry for being late, this weekend I'll post again.

Does the network configuration with xubuntu and dhcp still don't work?

Well, I am still using Ubuntu Beta, and in a network without dhcp I have been able to configure it to run ok, so I guess that that means that my network card is detected properly and the commands that you told me print that too. In the file, you have the output of those commands.

I am not in the dhcp network, and I'm not using the last version, maybe this has already been fixed, this 11th I'll try to run the daily build from that day, or the last version that I can get, and I'll try it in the dhcp mode, at home. Sorry for not being able to help you more, maybe this was related to that bug that you told me, but I saw that that bug was specially focused in the ubuntu server version, so I don't know. Sorry.
If I can help you running other commands and posting the info just say so. In fact, I think that maybe I have done something wrong, or I don't know, because this has happened to me, with 2 different network cards, so I think that someone else should have reported this kind of bug, hope this is my fault someway.

Hope it's already fixed, bye, and sorry.

Hello,

Using the computer in the dhcp net, and using Xubuntu , October 11th release, and Xubuntu 7.04, I get the output that I include in that file, using the commands you told me. (I have took care of using the same DNS and saying to Xubuntu 7.10 not to use the roaming mode, so the problem shouldn't be in my config).

And I have noticed, that the command ifconfig, doesn't include the line that says which one is my "inet addr" (the inet6 appears in both outputs, but the other address does not). So maybe this whole thing has something to do with Xubuntu 7.10 not being able to get the ip from the router, or that's what I think.

If you want me to do something else, please try to post something in the next 20 hours, because tomorrow by now I think that I won't have access to this computer.

Bye,

tsunamo

The bug slipped in the package buisybox from pre gutsy. It seems to be fixed now, so Hardy should work better. I mark this as duplicate of #145382 .
