Bug Description

I never could get my HP Pavillion laptop working well under Feisty Fawn. It worked for a while and abruptly stopped after some "security updates". I was very happy when I updated to Gutsy Beta last week to find that my Broadcom 4311 was working under Gutsy. However today, I did a software update and suddenly it stopped working again. I checked and see that the wrong driver is installed. It was the right driver yesterday because it was working.

Yea my Dell Lattitude D610 with the broadcom airforce card works with the restricted drivers. But when I do an update I have to connect via ethernet to get my wireless working again?

If restricted drivers could save that file on the hard-drive so I wouldn't have to reconnect to the internet that would be awsome. It could just have a third option after locate on file, locate on internet, or Use previous driver.

My Broadcom 4311 wlan mini card (on Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop) was working OK under Gutsy, using Restricted Driver Manager (in System Administration menu). After upgrade to Hardy, it no longer works: Network Manager applet shows no wireless networks even though wireless is enabled. iwconfig shows eth1 but with 'not associated' for access point. No Restricted Drivers Manager (in System Administration menu) under Hardy. I've installed bcmwl5.inf as Windows Driver (under System Administration menu). Same results for eth1 re Netork Manager applet & iwconfig.

I found a fix for the problem. I got a new Unix based operating system and
now am finally free from windows. I have been using this new operating
system now for almost 6 months and IT IS BULLETPROOF. The feature are
GREAT. Although I am still learning small tricks, I am constantly pleased
at discovering new features that are GREAT rather than sickened by just
another bug. Upgrades happen but so far as I can tell, they actually fix
old problems, rather than unfix old solutions. (Sound familiar?). In
addition it runs on the slickest hardware I have seen EVER. I bought a MAC!
