[gutsy] pidgin silently dies on startup

Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

After installing pidgin in a fresh install of Kubuntu Gutsy Beta, it fails to start, yet offers no error messages in the konsole.

Confirmed here too.

sdalley@centaur:~$ pidgin --version
Pidgin 2.2.1

Running from command line with -d option we get the attached output.
