rv380 hangs on startup

Bug Description

My PC is a Nec workstation with PCI Express radeon X600.
I installed RC hoary (20050330). All seems ok but system freezes during splash
screen.

If I go on another console during splash screen, it goes on and the desktop is
ok when I come back, but it freezes when I open a menu.
Same when opening session menu. An empty square is drawn, the mouse can move for
about 5 seconds, then system freeze.

I tried to remove the DRI module and tried with other resolutions (mine is
1280*1024) but it does the same.
It worked with a knoppix.
