In-order to have the In Band IPMI Firmware upgrade feature,
we require the ipmitool to be 1.8.15 version included in the Ubuntu 14.04.3 ISO.
Since, many of the features for In-band support are available with IPMI 1.8.15 version.

Latest version of source is available in http://sourceforge.net/projects/ipmitool/ which is required to be included in the distro release.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1478838/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

That is not how LTS release works. We cannot simply ask them to upgrade packages.

Ubuntu 14.04.3 currently has ships ipmitool version 1.8.13-1. If we want to add any new feature, we will need to cherry-pick/backport patches to add support for that.

Also, we are very late for 14.04.3 GA, meaning that they Canonical will not probably not accept it for GA time-frame. This is something that will be added after GA, IMO.

Can someone work on the cherry-pick/backport of the required patches?

Right - thank you for clarifying.

Marking this bug Incomplete for now. I suggest you rename the bug to replace the specific thing you need fixing and provide a cherry-pick or backport as you described, and then change the bug status back to New. Thanks!

Changed in ipmitool (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

It seems to me like this was largely covered by further ipmitool SRUs. We're now at 1.8.13-1ubuntu0.3; which includes patches for the USB interface support (although there is a bug open for it, too).

Should we consider this bug no longer necessary and ready to be closed?
