In Ubuntu beta 7.10 Open office Writer 2.3 crashes when I try to format and when I try to print.

I can confirm this bug. Any attempts to format a page in Open Office 2.3 on Gutsy causes a lockup of the program. I havent tried to print yet.

I posted in the OOoForurms, and they gave me a workaround to use:

I can't confirm it. I just used it the other day to format my page to reduce margins and it worked great. amd64 here. Anything else I need to do to reproduce a bug? OpenOffice 2.3.0 here.

I am running Gutsy Beta, Toshiba Tecra Laptop. The people at OOoForums said that "Ubuntu ships a modified OpenOffice.org with bugs, so get the mainstream version instead." However, the mainstream version does not work for me either. Is this an OOo problem or a Ubuntu Problem?

Alright, this is strange. I Installed the mainstream version and it didn't work so I uninstalled and then reinstalled Ubuntu's OOo through Synaptic. Now it works, but the colors have changed from white to grey. Format seems to work now, but the box now takes up the entire screen.

I don't know what to tell you, mine also works fine in that aspect. Hmm, maybe it's a dependency package?

Temporary fix found! To print, save the file in HTML format, open in firefox, and print.

Do you still have this problem w/ the final release?

Prior to the final release I downloaded the open office version from
their site. It worked well. 2 or 3 days ago I received an ubuntu
update for Openoffice. It replaced my files with the Open Office Ubuntu
version. Now, I can't do anything with the program.

So do you want to close this bug (Invalid or Fixed Released) and file a new one about the update problem? It doesn't look like you can test if OO.org still crashes if it doesn't work at all.
