I've posted a .deb of the latest intel driver git HEAD here if you would like to test it:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/intel/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1~git20071004-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

Since it's straight out of git, it may include new issues. Direct rendering often stops working, for instance. However it would be interesting to hear if it addresses this issue or not.

This sounds like it could be a dupe of 127101, although generally people do not see backtraces.

Although I did experience the behavior described in #127101 a week or so ago, this bug is different in that X crashes but does not take the system down with it. Rather GDM pops up after a few seconds after resume. I will try the git HEAD version, but given that it does not happen all of the time, it may be hard to immediately determine if it helps.

I have the same behaviour in a Macbook with gutsy from a week or so, with the same backtrace. Now I'm trying the new package (not from svn, it's a normal upgrade). Anyone known if it can help? I couldn't understand from the changelogs.

I've collected the reports about failures during mode switching (e.g. suspend/resume), such as bugs 138256 and 150109:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/ScreenModeChange

I'd encourage anyone with Intel graphics having problems with blank, black, or frozen screens after resume from suspend, hibernate, tty switch, and so on, to add data to that page, so we can get a more complete feel for what the bugs are.

I've also created a page summarizing how to analyze and work around these issues. It would be worthwhile for anyone experiencing these issues to review and try these steps, and then report their findings on the appropriate bug

I changed usplash from Ubuntu to Xubuntu logo and X went out of control but after a while it recovered displayng correctly the Xubuntu logo on startup.
Sometimes X freezes and I have to press the power button and noticed that desktop effects was automatically disabled to preserve the environment. Also I realized when pressing alt+tab moving from windows the top windows bar with close, minimize and maximize functions disappeared.

The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the -intel driver. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . You should be able to test the new -intel driver using the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
Thanks.

Closing as out of date since no one has confirmed it as still happening on Hardy. If it does, please feel free to reopen with additional detail.
