ubuntu gusty gibbon goes to a console like screen when restarted

Bug Description
When i had gusty successfully installed and it was working fine for a few hours then i tried to restart it and it went to a konsole like black screen with white text asking me to login and i did login but it was a text based login it didn't bring me to the desktop and every time i try to turn it on thats where it brings me, i am running it off the cd right now, i haven't figured out a way to get back to logging in the desktop
