Gusty Beta LiveCD freezes before login screen

Bug Description
My machine is a ThinkPad R51e and I have an ATI Radeon XPress 200 video card.
On the Gusty Beta LiveCD on start up, right before it is supposed to show the login screen, the screen flickers and then goes blank. Nothing is displayed. If I run the LiveCD in safe graphics mode, everything loads ok, except there is a white block that covers the bottom 1/5th of the screen.
