With alsa-lib 1.0.14 1ubuntu7, it appears that dmix is not enabled by default for USB devices plugged in when the system boots. As a workaround, unplug and replug the USB sound device and restart any ALSA-enabled applications (including the ALSA mixer if affected by https:/
