Can not search by translation policy

Can you explain what do you expect by search by translation policy?

Oh, yes, sorry. Maybe it is a bit ...

Some translations are marked as Translation policy: Structured (or
something else) that return the famous "Sorry, you don't have
permission to access this page. " when you try to upload the po file.

I realized that some of the translation projects are protected and can
not be uploaded, if the translation is locked. I downloaded a few
po-files that later I could not upload due to this "not so briliant"
locking. I still don't know what to do with them. The protected
projects are still not translated!

I propose that search could also include a feature to search only for
the projects that are not protected (locked), so the users that really
want to translate, can do it also by UPLOADING the po file, if they
please and leave those to-be-forever-locked-and-untranslated to the
translation groups. The idiotic thing about this is, that I was the
FIRST translator of some of the projects, but since the translations
were read from gnome svn, I can not even upload my own translations.

So, I want to filter only the files, that I can download the *.po and
then upload it when I finish without restrictions.

In the mean time you could also fix the problem with sorting. On the
pages https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+lang/xx only
the first page gets sorted if you click on the "Untranslated" tab. I
need them all sorted.

We are not planning on supporting search by translation policy. In short, "search" is not the answer to everything. What we are actually interested in is the "goal", and the "best way to achieve a goal".

Your goal seems to be to find projects you could work on. We plan to solve that with implementing

instead of adding "advanced" project search. That way you'd be able to find interesting projects which you have permissions to work on.

Now, you mention that you somehow got confused about where you can and where you cannot upload PO files. Using PO files for translation is an advanced-user feature anyway, but we do want to clarify it as much as possible, so I'd appreciate more input. What page where you looking at that gave you the impression you should be able to upload PO files, and when you tried, you failed? In general, on our translate pages you can see a warning if you are not a reviewer (thus having limited privileges, depending on the project) about how your translations will be made suggestions, or you can only see a read-only (no input boxes) translation form.

As far as solving sorting for the per-language pages in distribution series, it's a long-standing Launchpad issue which we have lacked time to tackle so far: https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/28612

It seems that what you suggest could be the answer.
I basically translate gnome and when I'm in the mood and out of work I
also like to take "something new". I translate using po files, because
it is more usable, I can easily unify the terms and can have more
complete control over the file. This is not necessary faster and in
gnome it's also the only way. So I guess I'm an advanced translator
:).

Take a look at evolution data server just uploaded from gnome.

It has the infamous "Translation policy: Structured" set as default.
The last translator am I, but can not upload the po file, if I choose
to.

This one is now 100% complete, but still I could to the dpkg for example.

It is not translated, but I still can not upload the po.

Then I started "searching" for all the projects that have
"Permissions: Open" and when I finally find one like Homebank

I do not understand this permissions thingy. I do understand that some
control over the translations is necessary, but this is way to creepy
for me, neglecting work outside the launchpad and promoting classes of
translators. What also happens, (but am not going to pursue the
thought any further than I should), is that some of the translations
get "corrected" back into the previous way, not in sync with the gnome
translations I made before.

So, to wrap up, If you find a way for me to simply locate
"Permissions: Open" projects, you changed the world for me.

Matej, I think it's best if you simply join the Ubuntu Translations team for Slovenian. At the moment, we have no plans for providing search by permissions (except the specs I wrote about above, which would give you suggestions on what to work on, and wouldn't give you suggestions to work on something you can't upload to), unfortunately.

... ne kužim! I translated one (Ubuntu one) package to see what
happens, but really do not understand what's "new" or correlated to
the bug report!

After I finished I also got a message, "4 minutes ago “gnome-menus”
source package in Hardy", but I newer touched that package.

I don't think this change can solve your needs.

As far I understand your wish of a „search by policy” for driven by the need of finding messages that you can add translation without requiring a review.

As a "workaround" a first step would be to pursue joining the Slovenian Ubuntu translation team https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-l10n-sl

To ensure a minimum level of quality I do not encourage Open translations. Allowing anyone to modify a translations is like allowing anyone to modify packages in Ubuntu or other projects repository.

I don't mind the review, I mind not to be able to upload a .po file.
After an upload, anyone can review it ten times if necessary :)

Now I found a person to do it for me, so this is actually obsolete wish.

The right thing to do is fixing that bug and forget about "search by translation policy" feature.
