Bug Description

Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk

Gutsy on a Dell M1330

When displayconfig is running in failsafe mode, it's not possible to choose the keyboard settings, and once you have chose the driver, it's rebooting with the wrong keyboard settings in GDM (qwerty keyboard instead of azerty). It can be extremely disturbing for the user unless he perfectly knows the qwerty layout.

actually the keyboard layout specified during installation gets used (the one that can be changed by running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg). Perhaps trying to get the model from an old xorg.conf would be a good idea.

The system wide keyboard settings should be part of the keyboard capplet.

There is already a gdm request to configure the keyboard from the login screen, no need to have an another GNOME bug there
