Bug Description

I just upgraded from feisty to gutsy on my ppc g3. I tried to print a test page on my canon pixma ip3000, but that doesn't work. I see the processes 'rastertogutenprint' and 'gs' that use all cpu for about 20 secs. After that, the canon pixma ip3000 led blinks shortly (2 secs). And then, the print job just disapears and nothing is printed. This printer allways worked in feisty and stopped working just after the upgrade.

This is the log when adding a printer and printing a test page:

Maybe this info can help also: I deinstalled the following packages and reinstalled them from the feisty repository and my printer still doesn't work:

libgnomecupsui1.0-1c2a gimp-print cupsys-common foomatic-db-gutenprint ijsgutenprint hpijs cupsys-bsd foomatic-db-engine foomatic-db-hpijs libgutenprintui2-1 libgutenprint2 cupsys-driver-gutenprint python-cups foomatic-filters foomatic-db cupsys-client cupsys min12xxw gnome-cups-manager

The printer worked with feisty and the Printer still works with other os.

Uninstalling the packages above didn't help, so I reinstalled the gutsy packages (upgrade).

I saw on http://localhost:631 that cups first did something with 'ghostscript', so I searched for packages in synaptic that matches 'ghostscript'. I deinstalled the packages:

gs-esp-x gimp-print pnm2ppa gs-esp foomatic-db-gutenprint ijsgutenprint hpijs ghostscript-x foomatic-db-engine foomatic-db-hpijs libgutenprintui2-1 libijs-0.35 gs-common libgutenprint2 cupsys-driver-gutenprint evince libgs8 ghostscript libgs-esp8 cupsys gsfonts-x11

and I installed the following packages from feisty:

gs-esp-x gimp-print pnm2ppa gs-esp foomatic-db-gutenprint ijsgutenprint hpijs foomatic-db-engine foomatic-db-hpijs libgutenprintui2-1 libijs-0.35 gs-common libgutenprint2 cupsys-driver-gutenprint evince gs libgs-esp8 cupsys gsfonts-x11

And now the printer works again, without having to reconfigure the printer.

Could anyone reply to this bug. I think it's an improtant bug. I'm not able to print on an updated gutsy ppc. On feisty it works

Hi Hendrik, Thanks for filing and sorry for the wait. Glad you got it working in Gutsy. We won't be updating the package for Gutsy, but we should make sure this isn't broken in Hardy. Could you test this with an Alpha release Live CD? Have you checked if this is also a problem on i386 or x64 machines?

Printing works fine on a i386 pc for this printer

I can't test hardy alpha 4, because it doesn't boot from both an imac powerbook g3 and a desktop blue imac g3, which is related to another bug (ide-core not loaded when booting).

I tried (as shown in bug #155027), but no luck with booting the live cd.

PPC is no longer an officially supported platform (though there is a community port), so I'll have to lower the priority f this bug.
