Bug Description

Im running Ubuntu Guest Beta and Im unable to get sound working on my AsusA7t. Ive tried almost everything so im willing to just start from scratch to get things working. The card detects fine from a fresh install, however there is no sound at all. When installing new alsa drivers, the card then fails to detect after a reboot. Ive also tried the drivers from the RealTek site to no avail.

I have an Asus A7T as well, with ath ALC882 audio codec. I was able to fix my sound issue using the alsa-base package installed by default (version 1.0.14-1ubuntu2 at the time of this writing). Here are the steps:

A. Create a new file called “/etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.modprobe”:
$ sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.modprobe

Add the following line to the file and then save it:
options snd-hda-intel model=w2jc

B. Edit the file “/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base”:
$ sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Add the same line to the end of this file and then save it:
options snd-hda-intel model=w2jc

C. Reboot. After I rebooted, I had sound.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better.

Please try what Eric suggested and report back as to whether it solves the problem or not. Please be sure to check all input and output options.

If it does not solve the problem perfectly, could you please test this with the current development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ and also include the debugging information from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems ? Thanks again.

I meant to say "what Sam suggested."

When I say "all input and output options" I mean:
1. Is there sound from the speakers?
2. With headphone plugged in, are speakers muted?
3. Do headphones work?
4. Does microphone jack work?
5. If you have one, does the internal microphone work?
6. If you have one and can test it, does the SPDIF jack work?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
