Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-13-generic

I've found a new problem that has cropped up on my Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook after some kernel upgrade in gutsy. I can suspend and resume the system normally while the system is running on AC power. However, if the system is running on battery power when I suspend, there is a major problem. When the system tries to resume, it starts to emit a *very* loud screeching beep, accompanied by a constant clicking sound (I'm not sure what it is, but could be the hard disk). The hard disk activity LED stays on, and the system is unable to resume. I have to turn off the system quickly by holding the power button, because the beep is extremely loud. This behaviour is triggered only when the system is running on battery power while _suspending_ , the system power state when resuming does not make a difference, as this table explains:

Suspending | Resuming | Able to resume?
AC | AC Yes
AC | Battery Yes
Battery | AC No
Battery | Battery No

I don't think this is a hardware issue with my laptop. I tried booting back into the old feisty kernel, suspending and resuming worked fine with it. Something has changed during one of the kernel updates. I'll be glad to provide any relevant debugging information.

Hi.

I've heard that sometimes the processor governor may be the culprit : while on battery, switch to the "performance" governor and try to suspend. Hope it helps.

If not, have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend

Good luck !

Since having reported the bug, I have started tracking the packages in the hardy repository, and now I am unable to replicate this bug any longer. Though I can't say what the problem was earlier, it seems to have gone now.
