Bug Description

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

I work with Ubuntu gutsy and use virtualbox 1.5.
I have install a Windows2000 (full update, Sp4, DirectX 9, ...) system and use Labtec webcam pro with Skype, msn...
I cannot view the video from the webcam, the video freeze at all resolution.

Many thanks for help.

I just rephrased the subject of this submission - I believe it is less easily mistaken as a report on Virtualbox itself freezing now. I hope you don't mind.

According to http://www.labtec.com/index.cfm/gear/details/AMR/EN,crid=30,contentid=675 the webcam you are using is connected by USB. USB support is not included in the "open source edition" (OSE) of virtualbox, which is available as part of Ubuntu: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Editions#Closed-sourcefeatures

As such you are apparently using the PUEL (not the OSE) version of Virtualbox, which isn't available in Ubuntu due to incompatible licensing terms. Thus, you should report bugs in this package to Virtualbox (http://virtualbox.org/) directly. I'm therefore closing this bug 'invalid. It is possible to reopen this bug to proove my assumptions wrong.

Changed in virtualbox-ose:
status: New → Invalid

Ubuntu removed support for /proc/bus/usb/*.
See http://virtualbox.org/wiki/User_FAQ (search for "USB on Ubuntu/Gutsy").

The reason behind this can be found in bug 151585.

Sorry, i use virtualbox 1.5.2. not ose.

I have change my ubuntu see bug 151585 /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh. The same problem with vmware-server is resolved (before shutdown vmware-server close the removable usb for the webcam, active the usb manualy). Virtualbox works little better, the video image appears on half and stops.

Many thanks
